    Why SoleCRIS?

I am one of those who somewhat religiously update their academic merits on the SoleCRIS inventory of our university. But I am beginning to understand the apprehension of numerous colleagues to even bother.

I am in the dubious category of post doc scholar at my university which as I understand is the same as limbo. Having obtained degrees from Canada, England, and Finland, and continuing to conduct research, be a member on international boards of academic organizations, regularly give papers in academic conferences, write reviews, articles, and books, as well as have them published, I feel it is futile to give my university the credit for these endeavours when it has not supported financially, or otherwise, my work.

As my unit does not directly gain any merit for my academic activity, nor does it see the value of my research on textuality and discourse analysis of literary texts, despite the fact that I teach academic English, I am left to wonder as to why bother at the end of the day to open up SoleCRIS.

Despite my unit’s attitude to my research it does subsidize my conference fees. Travel expenses and accommodation come out of my own pocket and I wait anxiously for the taxman’s decision as to whether I get a bit of a kick back and end up paying only half of the expenses. So why give my university credit for my academic activity through SoleCRIS.

I have no problem getting funding from numerous other countries and non-Finnish organizations, so why not give credit where credit is due.

I hope this will open up a discussion on this issue.

Nikolai I myöntyi asialle, sillä hän oli saanut veljeltään Aleksanteri I:ltä siviilitehtäväksi Turun akatemian kanslerinviran 1816.
